Shoulder Shawl

Image
SHOULDER SHAWL Yarn required: 2 skeins Caron Simply Soft Hook Size: 5mm (H or 8) Stitches used: DC, chain, V-stitch using DC (DC, ch 1, DC)  Skill level: Intermediate to advanced I apologize in advance for the quality of the garment in the photos. I made it a long time ago and it gets well-worn each winter. All of the others I have made have been donated to charity. Even though it appears to be a light and airy shoulder shawl it is quite warm and does use up the better part of 2 skeins. PATTERN START: Chain 90 plus 2, turn Row 1: sc in 3rd stitch and in each chain across, ch 1, turn Round 2 to 7: repeat round 1, except on round 7 ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and sc on next round) before turn. Note: (You might like to place stitch markers at each shoulder start and finish on this next round and carry them forward as you work.) Row 8: DC, ch 1 in next 18 sts (total of 19 DC including ch 3 start), V-stitch in next stitch (start of shoulder)

Girlie-girlie Dog Sweater & Rough and Ready Dog sweater

Image
This pattern calls for expert or advanced knowledge of design as it is organic and changes with the size of each dog. The first template being shown is made for a slightly chubby but very adorable little Berna-doodle named Ivy. There is a slit in the back for those who use halters instead of collars when walking your dog. You can make it without the slit if you just use a collar. Yarn required: worsted weight less than a skein per colour. Shown in photo using Red Heart Comfort yarn - 16 oz - 867 yard balls. No dye lot in pink. Also, Red Heart Comfort variegated yarn - 12 oz - 646 yard balls. I'm pretty sure you would use less than a Red Heart Super Saver Big ball of yarn. Hook size: Even though the yarn mentioned above called for a 5.5mm hook, I used a 5mm hook. Stitches used: SC for body, SC in back loop for collar, DC for legs and skirt frill. You need to measure from the bottom of the neck under the dog to the start of the front legs for the 1st

Frilly Scarf

FRILLY SCARF Yarn required: Worsted weight 2 skeins (or more) main colour, 1 skein offset colour Hook Size: 5mm Stitches used: Single Crochet (SC)                         Standing Single Crochet                         Double Crochet (DC)                         Chain (CH)                         Slip Stitch (SS) My apologies for any inaccuracies you might find . Most of my patterns are made on the fly and I never write them down. I am going through the scarf and counting the stitches and writing this down now. This came about after seeing how many gals (and guys) out there would share their own designs and I learned now TO WRITE THEM DOWN when I make them. Pattern: Chain any length in groups of 10 or 5. Shown here is about ch 215 plus 3 Row 1: 2 DC in 4th chain from hook. 2 DC in each stitch across, CH 3 and turn.  This is the start of the frill. Don't worry if you count is not accurate. You can make adjustments throughout and they won&#

Crocheted Cat Mat

Image
CROCHETED CAT MAT   This mat is made for my local Humane Society and even made it their Facebook page. It is a popular item for the stray cats and can go home with each animal when they are adopted. It ends up measuring 12" x 16", but can vary depending on the size of the yarn. Yarn: Leftover worsted weight - any quantity Hook Size: 5mm (H) Skill level: Easy to intermediate Special stitches: 3 DC cluster (YO, draw up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, draw up a loop, YO, pull through two loops, YO, draw up another loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. YO, pull through 4 remaining loops on hook, ch1)  Special notes: There is always only be 1 ch between clusters, except in corners where there will be 2 ch or 3 ch depending on whether you are using Round 2 or Round 3 template. (This is an economical and easy way to make a puffy and tight pattern to keep cats comfortable and warm. It is a hit with mine as well as the shelter cats as show

Ladies Slippers

Image
Knitted Ladies Slippers Pattern designed by me and my mother, Annita Haw (now deceased) and published in honour of her. This pattern can be made into men's slippers by using worsted weight and 5 mm hooks, or pretty well any yarn and corresponding yarn size. The length of the slipper is determined by measuring from the heel  to about 1 1/2 inches from the tip of the longest toe. Needle Size: 4.5mm (7) Yarn: 2 colours sport weight - Sayelle yarn - 1 skein each (there will be leftovers) Skill level: Intermediate CO at beginning is Cast On COF at end is Cast Off Please note that the increase stitch on some rows will be purl where indicated. Special note: You are using double thickness of yarn and you will be knitting with both colours at the same time, so keep your stitches really loose otherwise you will be working too hard to make the stitches. PATTERN START: CO 24 (using both colours) Row 1: K Row 2: K 11, inc 2, K 11 (26 sts

Fancy Free Hexagonal Flower Motif Afghan

Image
Fancy Free Hexagonal Flower Afghan Skill level: Easy to intermediate Hook size: 5mm (H) Yarn: Worsted Weight Quantity of yarn:  Can use scrap yarn for the centre and choose your own border. The example shown used Simply Soft Caron Yarn in neon colours and would be less than a skein of each colour.  The border main colour was made in white low cost bulk yarn and could probably be less than 2 big Bernat Super Value Yarn in 426 yard skeins. My apologies for the quality of some photos. PATTERN START: Make magic circle with your choice of beginning Simply Soft Yarn as shown.  Round 1: Into circle, ch 3 and dc (makes first 2 dc cluster), *ch 3, 2dc* repeat 4 more times, ch 3, ss to first ch 3 (total 6 2-dc clusters and 6 ch 3 spaces), finish off. Round 2: With next colour standing sc in any ch 3 space and make 6 more sc in same space, 7sc in each space around. (Total stitches should be 6 x 7 = 42 sc) finish off. Round 3: Attach bord

Simple & Fun Granny Stitch SlouchyHat

Image
Yarn: Worsted Weight (use any leftovers) Hat takes less than a skein Hook Size: 5mm or H (adjustments for size can be made on decreasing rounds) Special notes:  Ch 3 at beginning of each round counts as 1st dc (except starting ch3 if it is used instead of a magic circle) ss (slip stitch) to join to first stitch at the end of each round. Ch 1 at beginning of each round before starting the pattern. You will need to ss the first few stitches to get to all spaces on next round. (eg: if you ss to join into starting ch 3 of 1st 3 dc cluster, then ss in next 2 dc and in next space)  Hat size can be adjusted during decreasing rounds. There is a total of 19 rounds in this pattern. The total of rounds can be changed depending on how big a rim you want. It is very organic and open to change. *****PATTERN START***** Round 1: Magic circle (or ch 3 and join), Ch 3 and dc (1st 2 dc cluster), *ch 1, 2dc in circle*. Repeat until you have 6 2-dc clusters, ss to join to top of ch 3
