Simple & Fun Granny Stitch SlouchyHat

Yarn: Worsted Weight (use any leftovers) Hat takes less than a skein
Hook Size: 5mm or H (adjustments for size can be made on decreasing rounds)

Special notes:

Ch 3 at beginning of each round counts as 1st dc (except starting ch3 if it is used instead of a magic circle)

ss (slip stitch) to join to first stitch at the end of each round.

Ch 1 at beginning of each round before starting the pattern.

You will need to ss the first few stitches to get to all spaces on next round. (eg: if you ss to join into starting ch 3 of 1st 3 dc cluster, then ss in next 2 dc and in next space)

Hat size can be adjusted during decreasing rounds. There is a total of 19 rounds in this pattern. The total of rounds can be changed depending on how big a rim you want. It is very organic and open to change.

*****PATTERN START*****

Round 1: Magic circle (or ch 3 and join), Ch 3 and dc (1st 2 dc cluster), *ch 1, 2dc in circle*. Repeat until you have 6 2-dc clusters, ss to join to top of ch 3

Round 2: (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each space, ch 1 between each space. Total 12 2-dc clusters.

Round 3: 3 dc in each ch 1 space around, ch 1 between each one. Total 12 3-dc clusters.

Round 4: 3 dc in each ch 1 space around, ch 2 between each one. Total 12 3-dc clusters, 12 ch 2 spaces.

Round 5: (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in each ch 2 space, ch 1 between each group. Total 24 3-dc clusters

Round 6: *3 dc in each ch 1 space, ch 1,* repeat around. Total 24 3-dc clusters

Round 7: repeat round 6. Total 24 3-dc clusters

Round 8: *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in space, ch 1, 3 dc in next space, ch 1* repeat round. Total 12 groups of 2 x 3-dc clusters, 12 1 x 3-dc clusters = 36 3-dc clusters

Round 9: 3 dc clusters in all spaces, ch 1 between each. There should be a total of 108 sts around now (36 x 3 sts=108)

Round 10: repeat round 9 but without the ch 1 between each 3 dc cluster.

Stitch count is not critical in decreasing rounds. It is okay to be out by 1 or 2, just so long as your decreases are consistent.

Round 11: DC in each stitch around, decreasing every 13 sts (about 7 sts decreased), DC in last 10 sts - 101 sts remaining approximately.

Round 12: Repeat round 11 - decrease every 12 stitches (about 7 sts decreased), DC in last 10 sts - 94 sts remaining approximately.

Round 13: (Switch to SC) SC in each stitch around decreasing every 11 sts, SC in last 10 sts - 87 sts remaining approx.

Round 14: Repeat round 13 but decrease every 10 sts, SC in last 10 sts - 80 sts remaining approx.

Round 15: Repeat round 13 but decrease every 9 sts, SC in last 10 sts - 73 sts remaining approx.

Round 16: Repeat round 13 but decrease every 8 sts, SC in last stitch  - 66 sts remaining approx.

The stitch count as you decrease can be off by 1 or 2 stitches. It's very flexible and doesn't have to be perfectly accurate. It's whatever size you want. If there is an unequal amount of stitches at the end of each round that is okay. Just SC in each one and join with ss then chain 1 to start next round.

Round 17 to 19: SC in each stitch around. Finish off after round 19.
