Frilly Scarf

FRILLY SCARF

Yarn required: Worsted weight 2 skeins (or more) main colour, 1 skein offset colour

Hook Size: 5mm

Stitches used: Single Crochet (SC)
                        Standing Single Crochet
                        Double Crochet (DC)
                        Chain (CH)
                        Slip Stitch (SS)

My apologies for any inaccuracies you might find. Most of my patterns are made on the fly and I never write them down. I am going through the scarf and counting the stitches and writing this down now. This came about after seeing how many gals (and guys) out there would share their own designs and I learned now TO WRITE THEM DOWN when I make them.

Pattern: Chain any length in groups of 10 or 5. Shown here is about ch 215 plus 3

Row 1: 2 DC in 4th chain from hook. 2 DC in each stitch across, CH 3 and turn.

This is the start of the frill. Don't worry if you count is not accurate. You can make adjustments throughout and they won't show.

Row 1: 2 DC in 1st DC, 2 DC in each DC across. Ch 1, turn.

You will see your work definitely taking on the spiral shape now. If your count is off by 1 or 2 it can be corrected in the next row.

Row 3: SC in 1st DC, *ch 3, skip 1 DC, SC in next DC* Repeat * to * to end. Ch 3, turn.

Make sure you have a SC in the last DC and in the 1st DC of this round. If you are off by 1 or 2 you can easily adjust by skipping 2 towards the end before doing your next SC anywhere along the scarf. It will not affect the end result.

Row 4: (Ch 3 at end of row 3 counts as 1st DC) 4 DC in first CH 3 space (Total 5 DC), *SC in next CH 3 space, 5 DC in next CH 3 space* Repeat from * to *  to end.

Don't worry if you end up with a SC at the end even though the row started with a group of 5 DC. It's not exactly symmetrical. If you want to make adjustments to make it symmetrical, by all means do so!

Row 5: *Ch 5, SC in centre DC of 1st 5 DC group (3rd DC), ch 5, SC in SC*, Repeat * to * to end.

Mine ended with a SC in 3rd DC and ch 3 and DC in top of CH 3 from previous round. Finish of main colour.

Attach offset colour with Standing SC to 1st loop. If it is a full CH 5 loop then do 9 SC in each loop across. If it is a CH 3 & DC loop, then I put 4 SC in this loop and 9 SC across.

Here are shots of both ends of my scarf.

Scarf is finished. Ta da!
