Ladies Slippers
Knitted Ladies Slippers
Pattern designed by me and my mother, Annita Haw (now deceased) and published in honour of her.
This pattern can be made into men's slippers by using worsted weight and 5 mm hooks, or pretty well any yarn and corresponding yarn size.
The length of the slipper is determined by measuring from the heel to about 1 1/2 inches from the tip of the longest toe.
Needle Size: 4.5mm (7)
Yarn: 2 colours sport weight - Sayelle yarn - 1 skein each (there will be leftovers)
Skill level: Intermediate
CO at beginning is Cast On
COF at end is Cast Off
Please note that the increase stitch on some rows will be purl where indicated.
Special note: You are using double thickness of yarn and you will be knitting with both colours at the same time, so keep your stitches really loose otherwise you will be working too hard to make the stitches.

Row 12 : Repeat row 10**
Repeat from ** to ** until slipper is approximately 9 " from beginning, then:
3 rows (K 1, P 1) rib
Next row K 2 tog across (17 sts)
Next row K2 tog (4 x's), K 1, K 2 tog (4 x's) - (9 sts)
Without casting off string the last 9 sts onto a long peice of yarn. Turn slipper inside out and pull yarn tight to close toe. Fold slipper in half and use remaining length of yarn to whip stitch the slipper closed over the top of the foot, starting at the toe and leaving about a 4" hole at the heel. Finish off.
Whip stitch the heel of the slipper. Finish off.
RIB CUFF PATTERN:
Using only colour, pick up and knit 28 sts evenly around the opening of the slipper starting at the heel on one side.
Do 16 rows of K1, P1 rib. COF.
Whip stitch sides together over the heel. Fold the cuff in half and do one stitch to hold in place at the heel and one stitch to hold in place at the front of the slipper.
The slippers at the top of the photo were made by my mother. The slippers at the bottom of the photo were made by me and are rather well-worn.
