A great way to use up excess yarn, especially the ugly stuff you might not like. Some mats might be pretty, some might be ugly, but all will be surprisingly spongy and a perfect cat magnet. CAT MAT #3 I am making a granny square using a 2 half-double crochet cluster (HDC) instead of 3 double crochet. The shell stich is also made with HDC instead of DC. The finished mat is around 19" x 13" Supplies needed are: 5mm/I/9 hook Any worsted weight yarn Stitches used are half-double crochet, standing HDC, standing single crochet, single crochet and chain stitch. There are many tutorials on how to make the HDC and the Standing Stitch, so I won't describe it here. Make the pad 20 rounds if using a thin yarn like Caron Simply Soft, or 18 rounds using a thicker yarn. Make 2 pads. Finish off the loose ends before joining them together. To start the mat, chain 18, then do 1 hdc in 3rd chain from hook, 2 ch (starting HDC cluster) and 2 HDC (HDC cluster) in same stitch. (This is the s

CROCHET HAT & INFINITY SCARF 5.5mm hook 5 mm hook darning needle worsted weight yarn (like Caron Simply Soft) Stitches used: single crochet (sc), half-double crochet (hdc) and chain (ch), slip stich (ss) Special stitch: Blanket stitch to join rim. (Needle through outside loop of 1st st starting from outside and going inwards on one side. Then needle through the outside of the corresponding stitch on the other side. Do this for 5 stitches and pull tight to fasten. Make sure that you don't pull so hard it puckers. Even though the photo I uploaded shows the blanket stitch using the inside loop of the stitch, I have inserted arrows pointing to the outside of the stitch that I use.) The hat is worked from the bottom up in rounds. Brim first. Before starting chain make sure you have a long tail about 10 inches. You will be using this later to join the sides of the brim. 5.5mm hook chain 21 Row 1: With 5 mm hook, sc in 2nd st from hook and in each sc across (20 sc), ch

CAT MAT #2 A great way to use up excess yarn, especially the ugly stuff you might not like. Some mats might be pretty, some might be ugly, but all will be surprisingly spongy and a perfect cat magnet. The brick stitch pattern uses up a lot of yarn and does call for more work than usual, but it is worth it in the end. Supplies needed are: 5mm/I/9 hook Any worsted weight yarn Stitches used are double crochet, chain stitch and single crochet There are many tutorials on how to make the brick stitch so I won't describe it here. Make the pad 17 bricks by 25 bricks. Make 2 pads. Finish off the loose ends before joining them together. FOR DOG MAT: Make mat 33 x 33 bricks. Line up the corner of the 2 mats. Using a hanging single crochet do 1 sc, ch3, 1 sc in corner. 3 ch, and sc between the next 2 bricks until the end. In next corner do 1sc, ch 3, 1sc. finish off yarn at the end. In corner ch 3 space make 10 DC, *ss in next ch 3 space, 7 dc in next c

5.5 mm hook 5 mm hook worsted weight yarn - fits most average hands. If you use larger yarn, then use 5.5 mm hook and 6 mm hook for larger size. (*SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT ARM HOLE: If you want a wider arm hole, then make starting chain with a 6 mm hook. And next round use the 5.5 mm hook. You would be using 3 hooks for this project in that case.) Project is worked in rounds until the thumb hole Using large hook - ch 30, ss to join and make circle. KANATA KERCHIEF TANK - VARIATION First, you need to find the Kanata Kerchif Tank pattern by Jennifer Ozses at this link: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kanata-kerchief-tank The only change I made was the design for the squares. Here is my pattern for the squares: There will be a right side and a wrong side, so you do not turn the article. Also, I hardly ever block so my measurements will be pre-blocking. 1: Ch 5 and ss to join. 2: Ch4 (counts as 1st dc and ch 1) In circle make 1 dc, *ch3, dc, ch2, dc* repeat * to * a total of 3 times, ch3, join with ss to ch3 of first dc. You now have a total of 4 sets of dc and ch 2, with 4 ch3 corners. 3: Ch 1, sc in ch 2 space of previous round, *ch 2, (sc, ch2, sc) in corner, ch 2, sc in sp*, repeat * to * around, ss to 1st sc 4: Ch1, *2 sc in space, (2sc, ch 2, 2sc in corner), 2sc in space*. Repeat * to * around. ss to join to 1st sc 5: Ch 6 (counts as 1st dc and ch 3), *dc in stitch between space and
