Supplies needed: 10 skeins of each colour. (7 oz or 200 g each skein) (Leftovers can always make other items.) Colour 1: solid. Colour 2: variegated. Crochet hook: 5mm (H) Layout is point to point, not side to side. So, 10 columns of 10 diamonds, and 9 offsetting columns of 9 diamonds. If you desire, you can fill in the sides with half squares, but I like the zigzag edges. Example of layout: You can make it any size. The example shows columns of 6 and 5. I usually make it 10 and 9.  Stich used is double crochet (DC), single crochet (SC), chain (ch).  Motif pattern:  With Colour A as main colour make magic ring (or ch 4 and join). In circle make ch 3 (counts as 1st dc and 2 dc, ch 3 and 3dc 3 times, ss to join to first dc. Total 12 dc and 4 ch 3 corners. Round 2: Continue with colour A make ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) and dc in all dc. in corner sp do 2 dc ch 3 and 2 dc. Continue dc in all dc around and ss to join to 1st. There should be 7dc per side and 4 ch 3 corners.

The motifs can be laid out in a diamond pattern or a square pattern. The example shown above is in a square pattern. Worsted weight yarn with 5mm (H) crochet hook. Each motif: (This pattern can be adapted as you like if you find this doesn't quite work for you. This is more of a guideline than a pattern. The following is how I recall making it.) The colours I used were a variegated yarn for centre circle, lavender for square outside, and pastel yellow for outside trim. Round 1: Make a magic circle (or chain 3) In circle make ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 11 dc, ss to join to 1st ch 3. (12 dc total) (Remember to pull the circle tight so there is very little hole in the centre.) Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) and dc in same space, dc in each st around (total 24 sts) Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) and dc in same space, dc in next st, then *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts* until end of round, ss to 1st ch 3 to join. (36sts total) fasten off. Round 4: (add new colour)
