Diamond afghan
Supplies needed: 10 skeins of each colour. (7 oz or 200 g each skein) (Leftovers can always make other items.) Colour 1: solid. Colour 2: variegated.
Crochet hook: 5mm (H)
Layout is point to point, not side to side. So, 10 columns of 10 diamonds, and 9 offsetting columns of 9 diamonds. If you desire, you can fill in the sides with half squares, but I like the zigzag edges.
Example of layout:
You can make it any size. The example shows columns of 6 and 5. I usually make it 10 and 9.
Stich used is double crochet (DC), single crochet (SC), chain (ch).
Motif pattern:
With Colour A as main colour make magic ring (or ch 4 and join). In circle make ch 3 (counts as 1st dc and 2 dc, ch 3 and 3dc 3 times, ss to join to first dc. Total 12 dc and 4 ch 3 corners.
Round 2: Continue with colour A make ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) and dc in all dc. in corner sp do 2 dc ch 3 and 2 dc. Continue dc in all dc around and ss to join to 1st. There should be 7dc per side and 4 ch 3 corners. Total 28 dc.
Round 3: same as round 2. Stitch count would be 11 dc per side. Total 44 dc,
Round 4: change to colour b as main colour. Repeat round 3. Stitch count would be 15 per side. Total 60 dc. fasten off.
Do 10 columns of Colour a and b
Do 9 columns of colour b and a
Total 181 squares. Remember to finish off each square when you are done or you will spend too much time finishing off all the square at the end. I also take a piece of yarn and tie them together in the corner in groups of 10 and 9 and stack them up so I know how many I have made as I go along.
Holding the squares with right sides facing, whip stitch them in the grid along the sides. Or if you prefer, hold them together wrong sides together and do a row of SC along each side to make a nice ridge join.
Do a border of sc in one or both of the colours, remembering to join 2 sc together in the inside corners and adding 2 dc on the outside corners to keep the integrity of the pattern. The corner spaces all line up and the pattern all lines up to give a very nice effect.
You are done! Enjoy!
