Hexagonal Open Afghan

Colours used: white, pink, red. Worsted weight yarn. (Your choice of brand. Maybe 2 or 3 big super saver skeins each just to be save.)

The pattern in laid out in 10 columns of 10 motifs, with 9 columns of 9 in between in a honeycomb pattern. Total of 181 motifs. (Sounds like a lot but they whip up really fast.)

Hook used: 5mm (H) crochet hook.

Stitches used: triple crochet (TR), double crochet, (DC), single crochet (SC)

Instructions:

Round 1: With colour 1 make magic circle (or ch4 and ss to join) and in circle do ch 4 (counts as 1st tr) and tr, *ch 4, 2 tr* 5 times and ch 4, join to first tr. fasten off. (total 12 tr and 6 ch 4 spaces).

Round 2: With colour 2 attach to any tr from first round and 3 ch (counts as 1st dc) and dc in next TR, *in ch 4 space do 2dc, ch 2 and 2dc, dc in next 2 tr* repeat until last st and ss to join. There should be 6 dc on each side. fasten off

Round 3: With colour 3 attach to any dc before corner ch 2 sp, ch 1, *in corner do 2 sc, ch 2, 2sc, sc in next 6 sc* repeat until last st, ss to join. There should be 10 sc on each side. fasten off.

Whip stitch the motifs together in the pattern. You might prefer not to whip stich the ch 2 in the corners together and leave them open, or join them. That is your choice.

For outside border I did 1 round of colour 2, remembering to follow the shape by doing crochet 2sc together in inside corners and doing 2 sc in same stitch on outside corners to keep the integrity of the shape.

Then I did a final round of colour 1 using the same template as previous round.
